Grand Cancun in Mexico
Grand Cancun is an urban resort located in Cancun , Mexico by the Sea and in the City that is going to work as a celebration space for the foreign and local population, recycling water plant, electrical power plant based in removable energies (solar, wind, tidal and geothermic), marine biology laboratories, a livable sculpture. Designed by Arch. Richard Moreta Castillo, RA+D (Richard’s Architecture+Design a international architectural firm with headquarters in Germany.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Cancun, we have devised a complex that will serve as urban landmark memorial sculpturally adapted Magical Legend of the Serpent God of the Maya, and its meaning (kaan kun) “nest of snakes” we wanted to contribute to the myth and raise the serpent into infinity, representing an extraordinary fusion of Mayan people and new cities where it is possible to project the pride of its residents, amplifying the interest of your visitors and serve as a platform for business processes and financial.
This is first step towards building a new facility that it is going to work as:
1. Premium offshore resort, hotel with superficial and under water installations, commercial center and residential quarters.
2. Recycling water plant for the treatment of the floating garbage in our seas and decontamination plant (oil separation) of ours sea water for provide potable water to the population of Cancun, and depollute the water that will transit thru the mega filter.
The Grand Cancun at his central shaft will have the installations and equipment to be able to collect and reprocess plastic that is often ingested by birds and fish causing their demise. A large fence will circle the structure underwater around his diameter to capture all the plastic that floats its way. The plastic will be recycled within the structure and processed into plastic to be able to clean our seas and to be returned as a raw material to the industry as well as the wood, metal, textile and other debris collected.
The project objectives is to collect the garbage of sea and purify its water through an ingenious system of mega-filters that work in this sequence:
-Separation of solids and distribution agree with recycling criteria.
- Water purification by extracting dangerous chemicals, potabilization process for local consumption (5%) and redistribution to the sea (95%) after decontamination process.
- Recyclable waste is processed.
3. Power plant complex that would provide renewable energy to the city of Cancun and it will likely begin with a 32 MW vertical wind power turbine plant at its tower, and under the sea the hotel facilities will have an installation of 480 tidal power turbines in the channel between Cancun and “Isla Mujeres” fast moving water, that will produce and additional 47 MW, capturing the power of the tides just as wind turbines capture energy from air movement. They had been conducted extensive research by environmental agencies to ensure that the turbines would not harm fish or aquatic life.
The Grand Cancun is a new prototype for vertical offshore wind farms that could be a more efficient way in minimizing our footprint in the horizontal dimension in our planet, applying instead a “Vertical Master Plan” for future development than traditional farms that they have a negative impact in the quality of life and affecting the ecosystem due the among of sea land that they take for theirs installation. It was designed as a solution to a series of problems that affect the touristic community of Cancun. The superficial area, is the public area with residential and hotel tower resort, offices, commercial and entertainment facilities. Attached to the modules structure, there are a series of modules or terraces that are used as geoponic greenhouses, solar panels and wind turbines are part essential in the energy production. The bottom part or root of the Grand Cancun is comprised for the underwater installations, and power station that harvests geothermal energy and includes a subterranean water purification plant. Vertical communication is achieved through pneumatic elevators on all levels.The Grand Cancun will be 100 percent sustainable building that will produce energy through wind, solar, geothermic and hydroelectric systems.
4. Marine biology laboratory and educational under water facilities.
5. Habitable monument (livable sculpture) in commemoration of the 50 years of the foundation of Cancun to be celebrated in 2024!!!

The semicircular perimeter barrier side is a breakwater. In its western part will have a layer of sand that serve as artificial beach for the resort. We will use a differential global positioning system to give the shape of the barrier exactly. A layer of a high friction material permeable allows the sand is not as readily dispersed. Below and above the sand protective layer of rocks there. When finished constructing the barrier, it will create the artificial beach. Grand Cancun proposes completely revamp the development model of the city with a radical new plan to change the city’s image, the use of space and resources. This is one of the felt needs of Cancun, the epicenter of tourism in Latin America.
However, Cancun is a tourist destination in precarious balance too many risks: first, its energy resources are expensive, polluting and far (150 km), to obtain drinking water wells is limited and equally distant (a 30 km) and at risk of contamination. Environment, Waste Purification and Extraction
The best systems for environmental control technology, cleaning, extraction and purification will be implemented according to the most rigorous studies in ecology, marine biology, oceanography, chemistry, and environmental engineering.
The platform will have space and resources to extract and store regular waste, according to the public collection system, so as to facilitate proper separation of such waste, separate collection of them and their subsequent management.
This paradise also intends clean waters of the sea of waste and create a new habitat in the middle of the bay that is ‘sustainable and self-sufficient’. The platform in its deepest part is virtually floating on the sea floor 40 feet (12 meters) below sea level (maximum protection of coral). Drinking Water Supply

The tower, the roof membrane, the platform, the barrier breakwater and marina will serve as a high-powered energy plant capable of self-sufficient in renewable energy and generate surplus for sale to the local network and distribute it to the community.
Collection systems and solar energy conversion function through photovoltaic panels, transparent polymer photovoltaic system and a solar thermal accumulation.
The system for obtaining wind turbine park poses a vertical (multi) placed on high performance structural columns at the very top of the central tower.
The energy harvesting system of tides, currents and waves consists of turbines submerged in the sea area around the entire platform. Inside the barrier are distributed energy production plants waves.
The geothermal system pushes water into the ground through a network of canals to draw hot water to generate electricity.
HVAC and temperature control

In the next area, the Podium, is a center for world-class conventions, scheduled to lead the existing service, which although they work well, and reveal the limitations of space, services and years behind. Next to the center have cinemas, theater and shows.
On the platform level, covered by a magnificent inflated membrane pressure high strength polymer photovoltaic and contain a large leisure area with restaurants, clubs, sports, saltwater pools, spas, spa, wellness center, club golf, clubs, pubs, Lounge, etc..
